I started this website to relieve my groaning book shelves and to
give me an easier reference to my recipes. The only alternative is
to go through all my lever arch folders to search for an elusive
recipe, which can take hours.
The recipes in this database are from various sources and have
been adapted to suit my taste: I have been inspired by The Good
Food Magazine, Olive, Mary Berry, Jamie Oliver, Yotam Ottolenghi,
The Accidental Vegetarian, Gourmand Magazine (France), Papilles
(France), Best of Cuisine Actuelle (France), The Guardian, The
Pasta Book, Tesco online, Ocado online, Gordon Ramsey, Rachel
Allan, Paul Hollywood, Thomasina Miers and many, many more. Some
recipes are handed down from my mother and some are made up. The photos are all my own, taken
after every meal (a bit of a bind, but I got them all thanks to
Ian, my husband, for reminding me each time before I ate it all!)
There was one near miss with the Vietnamese pork and peanut
burgers. The photo you see is half the burger, the only bit that
was left.
Most recipes in its original form are far too spicy for me
at my age (i was born just after WW2), so the spices used are
always mild. I mainly use herbs and
aromatics. I do mention
seasoning in case you like things spicier. Lemon juice also somehow masks the fact
there is often little salt in a recipe. Also, my husband is diabetic, so
we try to use as little sugar as possible.
I have divided my recipes in four different categories. I call
them diets for short: meat, fish, vegetarian, dairy. There are
pages of recipes which take under 35 mins to cook. You can also search through all the
recipes on the site, or put in a Google search. I still have to perfect a
proper search page of my own, unfortunately.
There is a page for special occasions and a page for sweets and
desserts as well as a vegetarian page, but some do use eggs,
so they are not for vegans. This is not a blog and the site really
only contains recipes. There are enough people on the web
discussing food at length. This site is practical: you want to
find a specific recipe or a week's worth of recipes, this is the
site for you. With every recipe comes a handy printer
friendly pdf, which you can put in a folder.
I hope you enjoy the site but if you have a comment to make or a question to ask, please send an email to
